Battling Summer Hair Frizz

Swimsuit / Towel / Hat

Living in the south in the summer has a lot of perks, but frizzy hair isn't one of them. A few of you asked how I keep my curls and battle frizzy hair in the summer, and below are the products that I use. Product alone will not fight the frizz. My hair is naturally large, coarse, thick and easily gets frizzy in the summer heat. When we took our engagement photos, I had to re-curl my hair about 10 times to keep it looking nice. Luckily, I've figured out some tricks since then to keep my hair in check during the summer months.

  1. Keratin treatments - I started getting these about a year ago at my salon and they have totally transformed my hair! I have color treated hair that was getting so dried out and tangled all of the time, my hair dresser recommended this to me and it's worked wonders.
  2. Olaplex - If you haven't heard of this yet, it is about to be your hair's new bestie. When I dyed my hair blonde two years ago, the texture and thickness totally changed and I no longer had the volume I had before. This product adds proteins back into your hair and helps damaged hair feel great again. The other great news? You only need to use it once a week or once every two weeks. A little goes a long way.
  3. Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner - I've been a fan of Moroccan oil for years because of the smell, but the moisturizing benefits of this shampoo and conditioner are worth their weight in gold.
  4. Deep conditioning treatment - I use a deep conditioner 1-2x/week. It helps my hair to be less frizzy and more manageable. I only use it on the bottom of my hair rather than the roots so that my hair doesn't get greasy.
  5. Velvet Hammer by Drybar - Drybar's velvet hammer product helps smooth my hair, retain my style, and cuts down on the frizzy issue. I've had a bottle last me for about 6-9 months.
  6. Round brush with metal center - the metal center is KEY. Just like using rollers or a curling iron, when you use your hairdryer with the round brush with a metal center, it helps control frizz and smooth your hair.
  7. Curling iron - I use a curling iron to style my hair. It gives me the most control over my curls, and I've fallen in love with the one from Drybar! The center rotates for easier curling, it heats up quickly, the temp can go up to 440 degrees and it will shut off automatically after 30 minutes for those of you that sometimes forget ;). It's become my absolute favorite hair styling tool!
