Bedroom Reveal

The grown-up bedroom of my dreams is finally a reality. It's been a little less than a year since we purchased our first home and began decorating. If you follow me on instagram, you know I have mentioned what a big advocate I am for decorating your master bedroom first. I hear designers say all of the time that this is the last room most couples pay attention to in their home. I get it - you want for the entertaining space and the dining room (aka all the places you can "show off") to be the first spots to spend your money on. I beg you - put your bedroom first.

Our bedroom is my oasis from the day. I know that when I come home, I can kick back and lay in our bed and feel relaxed because our bedroom feels comfortable, looks great, and is organized for our life.

So let's get down to the details. How I decorated this room:

This time around, I decided to go slow. Something that is rather difficult for me because I'm impatient and I want things done, like, yesterday. What I've learned from rushing things with home decorating is that I ended up frustrated with a lot of items that were purchased with the intention of being a "filler" and I was constantly wondering why things weren't turning out the way I envisioned them. Fast forward to now and I have been able to put this room together in less than a year.

The first thing I started with was the paint color. I went with Marshmallow White by Sherwin Williams and I absolutely love it. It's a creamy white with a tiny bit of pink in the undertone. It feels warm at night with our lamps and it's lovely and bright during the day without feeling like a hospital room.

Next, I purchased these fabulous Etienne 3-door chests from Frontgate in French Blue. Frontgate is a sister company of Ballard Designs (where I work) and I am in love with these timeless and well-made bedside chests. These chests feature a "slow-close" and they also have a power outlet on the back to help with cord management (a true dream come true because Garrett loves things with cords).

Once I had the chests, I wanted a neutral bed to compliment them and I opted for another Frontgate item, the Raegan Bed (sold out, similar) in Sugar Shack Cream, a performance fabric. One lesson I learned from our last headboard was to go with a performance fabric. I want to feel comfortable in my home and not like I'm in a museum where I need to watch my every move. (This is where I tell you the story about one-too-many cabernet sauvignons turning my headboard into a true crime scene - so depressing. RIP blue headboard.) I vow to forever choose performance fabrics moving forward.

So, let's talk about how I brought all of those devilish details together.

Enter, Google Slides. This has been the best idea I've ever had to put a design together for my home and keep it organized. See something fabulous in HomeGoods and want to know if it matches? Bring up your slide and look side-by-side. I saved so much money (and time) by using this genius little trick!

These beautiful custom chinoiserie panels I found on Etsy. They are hand-painted on silk and the frames are from Frame-it-easy.

One of my favorite things in the room is this chic dog bed from Paw.com. It matches our decor and Laila loves it.
