Podcasts & Audio Books I'm Loving
With my husband and I constantly on-the-go, we rarely have time to sit down and read a book cover to cover. I also get bored of magazines and listening to music on my phone on flights or in the car, and these books and podcasts really help the time go by. More than a great way to pass the time, I love listening to various podcasts and books to learn more, widen my worldview, and become inspired. One of my favorite ways to listen is while taking my dog for a walk or I'll put on a book while sitting in Atlanta traffic. It's amazing how fast 60 minutes go by when you are listening to a podcast/audio book! There are so many types of podcasts out there. You can find one for almost any interest and on any topic. For me, however, if I am going to take time to listen to something, I want it to help me grow in my life. I really enjoy selecting podcasts and books that make me want to be a better person, in life or business. Here are a few I've been listening to.
Podcasts:
How I Built ThisThis podcast interviews some of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world and their amazing stories. My husband and I are both entrepreneurs, so it is always interesting to us to listen to stories of ones who have "made it". If entrepreneurship is something you're interested in or you simply like to listen to business success stories, this one is for you! One of my favorites is Sarah Blakely, Spanx founder.Tim FerrisSimilar to How I Built This, Tim interviews extremely successful people. Tim is the author of New York Times Best-Seller, "The Four Hour Work Week" amongst others, and is an entrepreneur and public speaker. His podcasts cover a variety of topics and interviews with various types of businesses. Many of his guests are well-known, successful, and sometimes of celebrity status. It is generally ranked as the top business podcasts on Apple and has managed a #1 position out of 500,000+ podcasts on the app. He asks amazing questions and has a lot of insight on the topics he covers with his interviewees. In general, he is a very interesting person that is extremely intelligent (Princeton grad) and worldly. My favorites: Andrew Zimmern and Jamie Foxx.Joe RoganStand-up comedian and businessman, Joe Rogan is fun to listen to. He meets with various famous personalities and hosts long-form conversations. People he interviews seem to really open up and feel comfortable with Joe, which makes for very interesting conversations. His podcasts are great for long flights or drives because on average, they last a few hours. It is very intriguing because the topics go into depth and really hold your attention.
Audio Books:
You Are a Badass at Making MoneyThis book changed my life. Plain and simple. More than just a book on making money, this book provides life lessons on giving, learning to not care what other people think of you, and getting focused. One of my favorite take-aways is her section on giving. I hate to admit this, but I have always had trouble with this. I love giving gifts to friends and volunteering as well as donating items to shelters, but I wasn't in a routine of giving by any means. She challenges the reader to give for 30 days straight and see what happens. I have to say, it has been mind-blowing what results I personally received. I gave small amounts, large amounts, my time, my energy...whatever I had to give that day to whoever needed it. If a clerk asked if I wanted to donate a dollar to charity, I did it. If a friend or neighbor asked for a hand with something, I did it. Not only did I feel incredible on the inside, I started seeing gift coming back to me in different ways as well. I highly recommend this book, and if you haven't ever downloaded a book on audible, your first book is free!Girl, Wash Your FaceThis book has received a lot of hype. While I think it moves a little slow (the audio version), overall, I agree with some of the points she makes. It actually made me cry in a few instances. I really liked the no-nonsense way she writes this book. I'm still listening to this one now, so I will give a full review when I'm done! You Are a BadassAnother amazing read/listen. Sincero is witty, funny, and brutally motivating in this easy read. I actually started reading this around the time I was slightly depressed. My depression came from my previous career path and this book really helped me to find the motivation I needed to get after my goals. I really liked how she talked about blooming into the fullest expression of yourself. Reading this book helped me to re-find my strength, focus on my goals, believe in myself again and take risks. So far, I can tell you that it has been very rewarding. This book is all about getting over your fears and trusting in the Universe that it wants you to succeed.
How I Listen:
We have two of these in our house, and we love them. Because they are hooked up to wifi instead of bluetooth, you don't have to deal with all of the notifications that come to your phone over the speakers. They also have great sound, can play really loud (we put one outside for bonfire nights in the back and it does great!), and they are super easy to control.
