12 Easy Wall Decor Ideas
12 easy and affordable Wall Decor Ideas to decorate your home, adding warmth and style. These unexpected and easy to implement decor ideas will save you money and add charm to your walls.
It seems I'm always trying to keep our walls from having empty space. We have been in our fixer upper for a little over a year now, and the walls have been the final item on the checklist of decor that I tackled. I love when we have visitors over, because of the reactions we get to the items I've selected. Rather than using big-box retailer artwork, I've scoured the internet for fresh ideas to give our walls an unexpected pop.
Today I'm sharing some of my favorite items to use on your walls to give them flair and add dimension to your room. These charming ideas will save you money and will allow you to implement them quickly into your own home.
- Wall Brackets & Vases I attended the Atlanta Christmas Showhouse and in one of the room's, a designer used acrylic wall brackets and beautiful blue vases as wall decor. I fell in love. There are some low-cost ones like these or you could make your own with a piece of wood and a shelf bracket.
2. Mirrors It may sound simple, but I love using mirrors to fill our walls. It reflects more light into the room, in turn making the room feel bigger and brighter. This chippendale mirror I scored on Facebook marketplace makes a statement in the room just as much as a piece of artwork would.
3. Use something unexpected Use something fun and unexpected to make a statement in a room. Oars, canoes, surfboards, antlers or tasteful taxidermy can make your walls pop and take up a nice amount of space. I found this Ring-necked pheasant at 12,000 square foot estate sale in Atlanta and thought it matched the Ralph Lauren-esque decor in Garrett's office.
On instagram we were divided by the subject of taxidermy (literally a 50/50 split) but for those who don't go for stuffed animals, there are some charming faux antlers out there that would look great, too.
4. Frame an heirloom Think letterman jackets, vintage swimsuits, pennant flags, an old pendant from a necklace framed like an intaglio. This adds a special, personal touch to your walls and acts as a talking piece.
5. Use Plates These pretty plates double as entertaining pieces and beautiful wall art. You can easily remove them for use and rehang!
6. Frame photos in black and white Framing photos is the easiest and least expensive wall decor idea you can do! Whether it's photos of you and your family or artistic images taken of beautiful scenery from a vacation, this acts as a beautiful personal touch to your decor.
7. Make your own DIY abstract art One of my favorite quick and inexpensive tricks to filling our walls is to make my own! Pull from colors in your room and buy acrylic paint from your local art store. I like to go to HomeGoods and purchase a low-cost piece of art with a frame I like, and paint over the original artwork. Below is a piece I did for our den.
8. Frame free printables There are lots of great places online that offer free printables or free photography. For free printables, I like Vintage Printables. For free photography I like pexels.
9. Frame a map Want a large piece of art for your walls? Frame a map! Grab a frame meant for a poster or use an inexpensive frame from a company like Frame It Easy to keep costs low.
10. Hang an architectural piece Carved wood, corbels, moldings, wrought iron and statue pieces are just a few examples of a beautiful option for a decorative piece for your walls. The texture and historical elements of the piece are just an added bonus!
11. Use something organic Coral, plants or driftwood are great options for wall or shelf decor. On your next trip to the beach, stop by a shell store and grab a fan coral to frame with a linen backdrop. Go for a walk and look for driftwood with interesting shapes and sizes. There's so much beauty in nature - let some of it into your home.
12. Frame sheet music or poetry This one might surprise you! You can look up sheet music online and grab some antique-looking paper and print! Go to an old and used book store and grab a book of poetry and carefully cut out a page that you like.
If you're looking for more traditional forms of artwork, head to estate sales or take a look on the Facebook marketplace. There are endless possibilities.
