Best White Exterior Paint Colors for Your Home
When I was selecting the colors for our home, I spent hours researching. I wanted to find colors that were warm and inviting but also felt modern. I didn't want the white to be too white or the shutters to be too brown. A bright white house looks good in certain parts of the country, like the beach or on a modern farmhouse exterior. But, for classic neighborhoods, I like a warm white.
Warm whites are so fabulous because they are inviting, add charm, and update the home in a way that keeps it classic.
My first choice was Alabaster. We have Alabaster in our guest room, and it is so creamy and delicious! It's similar to a winter white. However, while it works great for our guest room, I started feeling that it might look too bright for the aesthetic I was planning for.
This led me to my dilemma of Duck White vs. Oyster White. They are both stunning. In order to choose, I took the swatches with me as I rode around in my car, looking at my favorite homes around town. I held the swatches up to see which color I thought the house looked more like the home paints I envied. Once I thought I had the color nailed down (and figured the cops were about to be called for loitering) I left and decided in blind faith on Oyster White.
Having nailed down the paint color for the brick, it was time to find a complimentary color for the shutters. I narrowed it down to three lovely brownish colors. I wanted something a little warmer that what has been so popular recently. I loved porpoise for the sharp contrast, keystone grey for a darker brown option and taupe tone for the light contrast.
I decided on Taupe tone for our shutters and our front door and porpoise for a contrast on our back sliding glass door. I went for a darker shade on the sliding glass door to make the door look more updated. I figured a light contrast wouldn't look as good because the darker color makes it have the illusion of a dark metal.
The colors came out perfectly, and while I passed on the other three colors, I think they are the top contenders for painting your house a charming white.
