How to Decorate a Christmas Tree
Decorating my Christmas tree is something I look forward to every holiday season. It is such a fun process that always gets me in the holiday spirit.
A good tree design starts with a great-looking tree! I get my trees from King of Christmas and have been so impressed with the quality and look over the years. They are easy to package up and take out, extremely thick, and very easy to use for decorating!
Read on for my method for decorating a tree.
What You'll Need
3 different types of large ornaments (3-4 of each)
2 spools of wired ribbon
3 types of accent ornament in a medium size (5 of each)
2-3 pick styles (5 of each)
2-3 dangly, thin ornaments (6 of each)
A topper
How to Start
First, I add my largest ornaments to the tree. I push them far back into the tree to help add dimension.
Next, I add my ribbon to the tree. I love cutting my ribbon into ribbon tails that are about 7-12 inches long. By creating my ribbon tails, I use less ribbon than if I worked it in and around the tree. I secure my ribbon tails using floral wire and it works perfectly. I make sure to place them so they are well dispersed and balance out the tree.
Next Steps
After this, I add in my medium-sized ornaments. I like to place these a little further out on the tree than my larger ornaments. I love using different sized ornaments to help heighten the visual appeal and give the tree some flair.
If you have an ornament with a long string like in the below image, wrap the string around the tree until the ornament is flush with the branch for a more polished look.
Once I have these up, I add my Christmas tree picks. I like to use 3 different kinds of picks to add more excitement to the overall design. I start by placing big clumps of picks at the top of the tree. Then, I break the remaining picks up so I have more to disperse throughout the tree. My goal with using picks is to fill in any empty spaces within the tree.
The Finishing Touches
For the finishing touches, I add in my icicles and any other dainty, long ornaments. I place these on the tips of the tree and wrap them around the branch so that the ornament string is covered.
For my finishing touch, I like to add some tinsel. Tinsel has been so popular this year and I love how festive it makes the Christmas tree look. Grab several strands and place them in a clump in various areas to make the tree feel full.
I hope these tips will inspire you to create your most polished and chic Christmas tree yet!
