Sailrock Resort in Turks & Caicos

Sailrock Resort in South Caicos

Read on for a full overview of everything this gorgeous resort has to offer.

Choosing the ideal vacation spot for our vacation this year was no small feat. After extensive research, we found ourselves torn between the lush landscapes of St. Lucia and the pristine waters of Turks and Caicos. Ultimately, the allure of crystal-clear waters and superior hotel options tipped the scales in favor of Turks and Caicos. Then came the challenging part: selecting the perfect resort. While Providenciales offered a vibrant, Miami-esque nightlife, our quest for tranquility led us to seek a quieter retreat. We narrowed our choices to two resorts that promised peace without the hassle of vying for beach amenities. What sealed the deal for us was not just the rave reviews about exceeding high expectations or the warm, attentive staff, but the serene atmosphere and exceptional accommodations that were described. Coupled with a slew of complimentary amenities, our choice became clear. This is the full traveler overview of our tranquil escape to Sailrock Resort in South Caicos.

Getting to Sailrock

From the moment we boarded our flight in Atlanta, the excitement for our luxurious getaway to Sailrock Resort in South Caicos was barely contained. With just a breezy two-hour flight, we touched down in the tropical paradise of Providenciales (PLS). We landed at noon with some time to spare before our resort’s private charter at 4:45 PM.

While waiting, we dined at the airport’s single restaurant, Gilly’s which also offers cocktails and bottled water. The tropical breeze substitutes for air conditioning, and is complemented by an ensemble of whirling fans. Due to these conditions, the airport encourages a lightweight, travel-friendly outfit.

A smaller suitcase is your friend for the next leg of the journey to the island. This charming island hopper flight by Caicos Express is on the house when you book directly with the resort and honestly, it's a short and sweet sky jump—less than 30 minutes to touchdown. Admittedly, I had never been on a flight this small, and it was a bit anxiety-inducing at first, but we were in safe hands. The pilot was wonderful, ensuring a smooth ride that quickly eased our nerves.

A sleek Sailrock jeep (or a comfy van) escorted us on a brief ten-minute ride to the resort, where the friendly staff took over, handling our luggage with care and shuttling us to our luxurious room. The welcoming spirit of the place made us feel right at home from the very first minute.

Upon arriving at the resort, the warm hospitality of Sailrock Resort staff was immediately evident. We were greeted with their signature cocktail—a refreshing blend of rum, lime, coconut water, and a hint of blue curaçao, perfect after our day of travel.

Discovering the Grounds

Exploring the grounds of Sailrock Resort was like stepping into a sweeping panorama of the Caicos Banks and the vast Atlantic Ocean. Our Ocean Ridgetop Suite offered a front-row seat to this majestic view, where wild donkeys could be seen roaming and grazing right before our eyes. Each morning began in bliss as we sipped on complimentary Nespresso, freshly brewed in our well-appointed kitchenette. The thoughtful touches didn't stop there—bottled water, daily desserts, and luxurious L'Occitane products were replenished daily to enhance our comfort.

The attentive housekeeping service visited our suite twice a day, freshening up our space in the morning and returning in the evening for a delightful turndown service that always included a sweet treat and additional bottles of water for the night.

While the entire island invited exploration on foot, buggies were available for those preferring a ride. We chose to walk, soaking in the scenic beauty and getting our steps in. The paths, bordered with flowers and natural stone, offered a mix of aromas with the ocean breeze. (While the presence of wild donkeys added a charming touch to the landscape, it's worth mentioning they occasionally left reminders behind, so be mindful of the occasional smell as you explore the beautiful grounds.)

Mosquitos were a concern on calmer nights, however, the resort was well-prepared with complimentary repellent in every room and at the restaurants if needed. Fortunately, the high winds during most of our stay were a natural insect deterrent, allowing us to enjoy our evenings undisturbed under the starry sky. Every moment here was a picture waiting to be taken.

Activities

Sailrock Resort truly spoils its guests with a dazzling array of complimentary amenities designed to make every moment unforgettable. From snorkeling and Hobie Cat sailing to biking and a variety of ball games—including bocce and pickleball—the options seemed endless. Not to mention the tennis courts and kayaks, which provided us with ample opportunities to enjoy both leisure and adventure.

One of our favorite experiences was relaxing on the water hammocks, blissfully tethered in the serene Caicos Bank. It was like floating in a dream, cradled by the gentle waves under the warm sun. The kayaks also offered a special treat, allowing us to paddle to a different part of the island. This little expedition opened up a whole new world of natural beauty and marine wildlife, giving us a deeper appreciation of the island’s pristine environment and vibrant ecosystem.

The swimmable Caicos Bank serves as a vibrant nursery, where you can spot tiny starfish and juvenile lemon sharks amidst its shallow waters, adding a unique touch to our exploration of the area's natural wonders.

Beyond the complimentary delights, Sailrock Resort offers a tantalizing selection of paid excursions that promise even more personalized adventures. Perhaps the most enticing is the private boat charter, which includes a packed lunch and snorkeling gear for a 3-hour excursion on the crystal-clear waters. Guests can explore spectacular marine habitats, encountering giant starfish, visiting the famed Iguana Island, and snorkeling around vibrant reefs. This is the one excursion I truly regret not experiencing—next time, it's at the top of my list!

For those seeking a varied adventure, the resort also offers yoga sessions, spa services, ATV rentals, guided kayak tours, bone fishing expeditions, and Hobie Cat sailing lessons. Each activity is designed to enhance your connection with the stunning natural surroundings and provide unforgettable experiences tailored to every taste and thrill level.

Dining

Dining at Sailrock Resort drew my keen attention not just because of my background as a writer for an Atlanta-based food and wine publication, but also due to the sparse details available in other reviews. The culinary offerings impressed with their simplicity. The dishes, never overly salted or overly rich, let the quality of the ingredients shine, offering healthy yet satisfying meals.

Breakfast was delightful every morning with a generous $40 credit per person. My personal favorite was the traditional breakfast complemented by freshly sliced avocado, while my husband often opted for the hearty steak and eggs. Lunch at the Cove Beach Bar was a casual experience, right by the mesmerizing Caicos Bank. The attentive staff was always ready to cater to our needs, such as providing an ice bucket to keep our water chilled—a tip I highly recommend! The fish tacos and chicken quesadilla were our go-to dishes, perfectly paired with homemade guacamole, though the nachos always tempted us. Our favorite cocktails, the Spiced Islands and Pina Coladas, became a staple of our beach routine.

Dinner brought a change of scenery and menu each night at the Great House, set against the backdrop of the infinity pool and the ocean beyond. We made it a point to arrive by 6:30 PM to catch the breathtaking sunsets. The meals varied nightly, but we found ourselves drawn to the fresh fish offerings, especially the sushi. The selection of light Italian wines complemented our choices beautifully, enhancing the flavors without overpowering them.

Additionally, twice a week, the staff hosts a special dinner at the Cove Beach Bar, accompanied by a complimentary beach bonfire lit just before sunset. They also provide all the necessities for making s'mores, adding a touch of sweet charm to these beautiful evenings. It was truly a gorgeous experience.

It’s important to note that meals include additional costs for water, with choices like Evian or Pellegrino, and meals are subject to two taxes and a service charge, which can significantly increase the final bill. We opted for the meal credit system over the all-inclusive option. For $850, you receive $1,000 towards your meals and beverages, effectively saving 15%. This plan proved economical as the costs can indeed accumulate quickly. I highly recommend considering this option for both savings and convenience during your luxurious stay at Sailrock Resort. Check with the concierge for seasonal packages and options.

Attire

For dining attire at Sailrock Resort, the vibe ranges from laid-back to slightly dressy, ensuring everyone feels comfortable in their chosen style. In the mornings, it's common to see guests in cozy Sailrock merchandise or simply in their swimwear with a cover-up for breakfast. Lunchtime is as relaxed as it gets; the Cove Beach Bar embraces a 'no shoes, no shirt, no problem' ethos. Here, dining in your swim attire is completely acceptable—I usually tossed on shorts or an unbuttoned gauze shirt over my swimsuit.

Dinner, however, was our chance to dress up a bit. Garrett typically chose breezy slacks or shorts paired with flip-flops, while I favored light, ocean-inspired dresses, sometimes opting for sandals or wedges. While we might have been slightly more dressed up than some, the resort truly embodies an 'anything goes' attitude, allowing everyone to feel at ease and enjoy their evening in style.
