Ultra Chic Living Room Update - Week 1

A lot has happened since I last posted! For starters, we moved! I am super thrilled with our new house. We feel so blessed to call this Parisian-style home our own. After a challenging 2020 (miscarriage, furlough, the virus, etc.) this home feels like a fresh start and has already started lifting our spirits.
With just 4 weeks under our belts in this house, it's finally starting to take shape. I've been, of course, checking the FBMP religiously to hunt for items from afar. Luckily I have family back home in Atlanta that can go and snag items for me as I need them, like the above chairs and side table I scored just last week.
The room we decided to dig our teeth into first is our living room. One of the things about our house in Atlanta I was a little tired of was all of the white. While I like the look, somehow it always felt a little coastal, and my friends were always terrified to sit on my furniture.
This time around, I'm looking for durable, forgiving pieces that pack a punch in terms of design. I took this hide patchwork rug from our guest room and decided to use it in the living room because of the deep color. Hide rugs are fabulous because they wear well and they generally don't stain.
This week, I'm shopping for fabrics that are wipeable and stain-resistant for our Lee side chairs (another FBMP find). I absolutely love the fabric on this one pictured above. Unfortunately, I bought each chair from different owners and they don't match. I would love to hunt down this fabric or find something similar for the room. I've decided that the side chairs need a texture since the rest of the room will be somewhat muted.
When I start working on rooms for my home, I struggle with analysis paralysis. Also, my husband and I decided we needed a good tiebreaker 😂 to help with our furniture decisions. This weekend I enlisted the help of Memphis-based designer, Lindley Martens to help me with the configuration of the room. We have very similar tastes and after looking at her shop, I can truly say she is an expert in design and hunting for one-of-a-kind pieces (like that zebra stool). To say I'm thrilled to work with her is an understatement.
One of my big take-aways from our meeting was her advice on styling corner tables in rooms. It seems as though every time I try to style a corner, it ends up looking wonky in pictures. Her suggestion was to add a tall and thick plant and planter to the back edge of the table to fill the visual space more and then layer forward from there. Genius.
It was also her edit to move the chairs in front of the fireplace and put the Lee chairs across from one another, next to the sofa. This was brilliant for the functionality of the room, as now there are several comfy spots to watch TV or a movie when we have company.
I can't wait to continue sharing our progress and nuggets of wisdom I receive from Lindley as we move forward with the design of the other rooms. Be sure to follow along for more progress!
