Moody Powder Room Progress
Our new home is taking on a moody and cool vibe that I am loving, so naturally, I wanted to make our powder room a deep color that would carry that "cool" feeling similar to our living room. The current bathroom was painted blue and has watermarks EVERYWHERE. It's in pretty bad condition. The baseboards are filthy, the toilet is tiny, the sink is blah, and the light fixture has GOT to go.
So far we have made some small updates, read on to see what we've changed and our plans for this tiny powder room!
The Sink
The first thing I had to figure out was a sink. The sink in the bathroom currently is a pedestal sink and has a relatively long scale. I wanted a marble top sooooo badly, but based on the door swing, I couldn't use a sink more than a 19" depth, which significantly lowered my options.

I selected the above sink after testing out multiple options. I went with 36" x 16" to make the bathroom feel larger. I wish this sink came with the ability for a widespread faucet, but it only accommodates a single-hole faucet which will make it very modern. I'm still looking for the right faucet...
The Walls
To help downplay the modern look of the sink, I plan to use some molding on the bathroom walls and use high-gloss paint.
Originally I wanted to do a deep pink, like Sherwin Williams Framboise 6566 or Juneberry. My husband thought it looked deeper red than pink so we shifted gears and started considering black, teal, or deep green.
I'm trying teal shades on the walls this week! I'll be on the hunt for the perfect shade that will look like a little jewel box. I plan to paint the baseboards and ceiling the same color so that the bathroom will visually feel bigger.
The Floors
The sink and walls are shaping up to be a little over the budget I set aside, so I wanted a really inexpensive tile for the floors that would be easy to clean and look great. I found this fabulous ceramic tile that has a lovely marble look and was able to cover the entire floor for $60. I saved on shipping by picking it up from the store. I decided to have my installer follow the suggestion on the box by doing a 15% offset in the lay pattern and I am really satisfied with how it turned out! We went with a white grout that matched the white of the tile and I think it looks great.
We also replaced the transition strip from wood to a faux marble we found at home depot. It looks way better than the wood.
Other Design Considerations
Because my husband and I plan to rent our home out for big football game weekends, I decided I wanted top-of-the-line toilets where clogs would be no issue. I found this toilet from Kohler at my local Home Depot. After reading the countless reviews about the power of the toilet, I decided to get it and I've been extremely satisfied with it. The flush power is similar to a commercial grade and it's extremely good-looking to boot!
